File Management

The file manager contains all the files you offer to your customers. Below you have a screendump of the overview.

rdsubs file manager

A file can be assigned to one or many categories (as you can see in the category column) The first item has been placed in the category "Documentation & RD-Autos Single Dealer" category. Example; When you have the PRO/FREE again, you might want to give people access to the same plugins, so you can assign the plugin (in this case to 2 categories)
This way you don't have to upload everything twice or maybe more times.

Further we have implemented a download button, so you can download the files yourself too, the amount of downloaded times, the stability level and public/subscription level.

Add/Edit Files

The add/edit screen is also divided in tabs as Joomla does in the core. We will describe them per section again.

file details

Details

File Version:
Is being used to identify the version you're releasing. It is also being used for the Joomla updater if you use this part of the component. The update XML is being generated by the information from this screen.

Stability Level:
Is identifying the stbility of your component/module/plugin.

Select a file:
Your component/module/plugin Filename on server is being produced by the component in a md5 hash.

Keep Original Filename:
This is a one time setting and will not being saved to the database. When turning on this option (per add/edit) we don't touch the filename at all. Not even a check on characters. Your fully responsible for uploading files with the proper name. When editing the the added file the state of the dropdown will be pushed to "No" again.

File From Server:
If you're using big files you can upload them FTP and select it from this dropdown menu. Keep in mind that your files needs to be located in the download folder.
Download folder: [website-root]/components/com_rdsubs/downloads/

Filename on Server:
This is the name on the server when you have uploaded the file. This way you can always find your files back by the name in this box.

File image:
The image that is being used  in the download overview.

Status:
Published/Unpublished

Is Public:
When you offer free downloads without registration, the public files will be available for download without any registrations. When setting this option to "No", then the files won't be available for download without an active subscription (paid or free subscription) Keep in mind that Free Files can't use the Joomla updater unless people have a subscription for it. The Joomla Update System is only allowing downloads with a correct subscription key.

Release Notes

Set the release notes or information for a file. The release notes may contain a list of issues that have been fixed or not.
This is only shown when the customer hits the "Release Info" in the download section.

When using RD-Release System also, you can fill this field automatically from the Release System also. This means that your site will automatically updated from the release syetem and never need manual adding anymore.

Installation Notes

Describes how to install the component and giving detailed information about installation and so on. This part is also shown when the visitor is hitting the "Release Notes" button.

When using RD-Release System also, you can fill this field automatically from the Release System also. This means that your site will automatically updated from the release syetem and never need manual adding anymore.

File Categories

Select (multiple) categories where this file belongs to.

file categories

One file might be available in several categories, this way you don't have to upload the same file for every category again and again.

Example

As you might know we're having RD-Subscriptions PayPal plugins that should be available for Free and Pro users, we're only uploading it once. So we have to select 2 categories for this plugin: "Free Plugins" & "Pro Plugins" both serving the same file.

Joomla Updater System

The Joomla update system requires some additional information to maintain updates, so this information needs to be set per file in this sections.

joomla updater

It requires the main information of the file you're adding and the above information:

Extension type (Component/Module/Plugin, the element of your project (EG: com_rdsubs / com_rdautos or whatever it is installed). For plugins it requires the system folder. This are all the folders as in the plugins folder of your site. (keep in mind that you might need your own folder. This can be set as well)

The target platform requires the minimum requirements for this plugin. (most cases 3 for Joomla 3)

Uploading big Files by the backend.

Some servers are limited by the webhoster to upload big files, and this might result in a "500 server error".  You can contact your hoster and do the request to increase the next values:

1. post_max_size
2. upload_max_filesize
3. max_execution_time
4. memory_limit

Another option is to to add a htaccess file to your public_html and increase it that way.

Uploading files by FTP.

From version 2.1.5 it is possible to choose specific files from the download section, this way you can also prevent the above "Server 500 Error". So you need to upload your file by FTP to the next location: [website-root]/components/com_rdsubs/downloads/

** Keep in mind that this is loaded as latest option, when upload by browser and choose a file from server the latest wil be used! **
